How to Lose Weight Without Dieting and Be Healthy
July 18, 2015
Yes, you are overweight and have been trying unsuccessfully to
keep the weight off i.e. to keep this proverbial monkey off your back
but, all to no avail. You are now frustrated, fed up, depressed and
don’t know what to do next.
You have tried one or the other of the
popular diet plans and have realized that they do not really work. You
realized that the weight loss you keep experiencing in the short term
sneakingly comes back, only to frustrate you further.
Your
unfortunate experience clearly shows you that dieting provides short
term remedies for overweight and definitely do not deal with the weight
gain nor weight loss problem on a permanent basis, but cost money which
in fact is a waste of your money.
You are thinking in despair what
am I to do now? Well I’ll tell you what to do and feel good with the
results. You are now ready for a lifestyle change in which you will
participate wholeheartedly in
a sensible and healthy eating plan
 and a comfortable exercise program
Both are designed to assist you to achieve and maintain a healthy weight and prevent diseases associated with overweight.
You
will now consume the good macronutrients (nutrients needed in large
quantities) in planned quantities on a regular basis. The macronutrients
are:
 Carbohydrates
 Fats
 Proteins
They will provide the energy (calories)
your body needs for survival and other daily activities. According to
the United Stated Department of Agriculture (USDA) the amount of
carbohydrate you should consume must be enough to provide 45%- 65% of
your daily calorie intake, protein 10%-35% and fats 25%-35%. The actual
percentage of these foods depends on your age, level of activity and
other characteristics.
The American Dietetic Association warns
against diets that recommend otherwise, namely high protein, high fats
and low carbohydrate diets. Their weight loss success is short term and
studies find that high levels of protein consumed over time can be
detrimental to your health.
Studies also found that the way to
lose weight and also to prevent overweight and be healthy, is simply to
eat the foods with the lowest calorie level, highest fiber content and
the leanest protein. These may contribute to a healthy cholesterol level
in your blood, a healthy blood pressure and reduce the incidence of
diabetes and heart attack.
These foods include fruits, vegetables, vegetable
oils, whole grain, beans, legumes, skim milk and lean protein like
chicken and fish. If red meat, pork, lamb are to be eaten, they should
be the leanest parts and the fatty parts should be removed. However,
they should not be on your regular diet menu.
Foods to stay away
from are the ones with the highest calorie levels e.g. pastries,
cookies, cakes, white bread and white rice and fatty products like fatty
meats, creams, butter, whole milk dairy foods, fried foods and junk
foods. They provide little or no nutrition value, increase your weight
and could cause serious health problems in the long run.
Now let's
not forget the need for regular exercise. Studies found that exercise
done properly can reduce fat, boost your immune system, lower insulin
levels, and strengthen bones just to name a few benefits.
An
exercise program can involve aerobic exercise, strength training,
balance, flexibility and core stability. Let's expand a little on these
exercises.
Aerobic exercise increases your body's ability
to use oxygen. Examples are moderate to brisk walking, dancing,
swimming, jogging etc. This also includes some of your daily activities
like climbing stairs , cooking, walking the dog
 Strength
training uses your own body weight, free weights, weight resistance
machines and stretch bands to exercise your muscles to increase their
strength and endurance
Flexibility is the ability to move
your joints to achieve their full range of motion. Your flexibility
decreases with age but regular exercise can cause improvement

Balance and stability is the ability to control the center of
gravity of your body, so that you are stable on your leg or legs without
falling. Regular exercise improves your ability to do so

Core Stability exercises not only strengthens your core i.e. your body
trunk which houses your center of gravity, but also supports the spine,
enhances your stability and increases movement control
Before you
attempt to do any of these exercises you should consult your doctor for
advice on what form of exercise is good for you.
In conclusion,
If you eat right and involve yourself in an acceptable exercise program
in a consistent way as stated above, you will surely lose weight in a
safe, comfortable manner and healthy manner.
Healthy Living Stop Trying to Be Perfect
July 2, 2015
Have you ever heard the phrase: “Nobody’s perfect”? I’m sure you
have heard this at one point or another. If you are anything like me,
you believed it too. Most people do believe it because it makes sense. I
know for a fact that I have made mistakes. I also know that everyone
else I know has made mistakes.
Mistakes are part of being human.
If you are human, you make mistakes. There are mistakes to be made in
all areas of life. Anything you do that involves thinking, decisions or
execution of a skill presents the opportunity for a mistake. That
doesn’t sound like a very optimistic view, but it is true.
The
optimistic view would say that any thought, decision or execution of a
skill presents an opportunity for success. This is where I often see the
importance of mistakes in our lives. That’s right, mistakes are
important. Mistakes are what we learn from. Mistakes are what make us
better. Without mistakes, we don’t improve.
More importantly,
without the opportunity for mistakes, we have no opportunity for
success. When it comes to sports, this is a no-brainer: if you don’t
play the game, you can’t win. If you relate it to business: if you don’t
call a prospect, you can’t make the sale. If you don’t show up to the
meeting, you can’t contribute ideas. The list goes on and on and it’s
the same in all areas of life. Without the opportunity for mistakes,
there is no opportunity for success.
The bottom line is: if you are afraid to make mistakes, you will never succeed.
This
is a lesson I learned a kid. Sports taught me this lesson. It took a
few more lessons in the real world before I fully understood it and how
it would work in the business world. Now that I get it, life and
business are much easier. Do I see mistakes and failure? Of course I do.
I experience them regularly. But I also see success daily. Some success
comes from just trying again. Most of my success comes from the things I
learned from the past mistakes.
When it comes to health, mistakes
are also important. Yet, health is an area that people are afraid to
make them. When discussing exercise routines with people, I hear far too
often: “I can’t do it every day, so I’m not going to do it at all.” Or
“I don’t have time to do it for an hour, so I won’t do it at all.”
These are excuses that I hear frequently. I hear them,
not because these people are not good enough to get exercise, not
because exercise is too hard for them. I hear these excuses because
these people are afraid to make mistakes. It is easy to start a new
routine. It is not easy to keep a new routine going. Each time you run
into a challenge, it is difficult to overcome it.
Challenges will
arise. Your plan to overcome these challenges is what will get you
through. When you set out to do something new, you are bound to make a
mistake or two. When you make those mistakes, you can do one of two
things:
1. You can give up
2. You can learn from the mistake and try again
When you try
again, you can either give a similar strategy another try or you can
start over and try something new. Either way, you are deciding that you
are not done and you are able keep going. When you keep going, you can
succeed. When you quit, you can't succeed.
In health, mistakes are
not the end of your routine unless you quit. They are simply a
roadblock that causes you to stop and think about what you are doing.
You have a choice at every roadblock. You can choose to give up or you
can choose to keep trying.
The choice is yours. When we were kids,
we learned that nobody's perfect. We learned that quitters never win
and winners never quit. We learned all of these things and applied them
to other areas of life. Socially, professionally and financially, we
have chosen to keep going. In order to live healthy we need to make that
same choice. You can try to be perfect, but it won't happen.
Being
perfect is an illusion. For some reason, we think that our health
routines need to be perfect. The fact is, nobody is perfect in any area
of life, including health. Healthy people are not healthy because they
are perfect. They are healthy because they have learned from mistakes
and keep trying to live healthy. Health is not about being perfect. Stop
trying to be perfect and start doing something that you can do today.
If you make a mistake, learn from it and do something differently until
it works for you.
Why Are We So Obsessed With Losing Weight
June 5, 2015
While doing some posting on a few forums that I am a member of, I
was reading posts about people trying to lose weight and some of the
ladies who were saying they still needed to lose 10-20 pounds look so
skinny right now they look like they are skeletons!
So why is
America so obsessed about their weight? Could it be because of all the
commercials, MTV, the skinny stars and sports fanatics who are
constantly bombarding us with their idea of an attractive person? The tv
or movie commercials that say if you are not a size 4 you are
overweight!
I was watching The Devil Loves Prada the other night
and was so upset when they told the secretary that she was a pig at a
size 4! I couldn’t imagine being in a size 4, let alone being told I
needed to lose weight to be in a size 0 in order to look good! Come on!
Why are we so obsessed?
Why can’t we love ourselves for ourselves?
Below is what I posted in reply to someone asking for diet tips etc:
I
too am doing a “healthy living lifestyle” change…I have found for
myself if I focus on losing weight I want to eat more items that are bad
for me. I refuse to tell myself I am losing weight…I don’t need to
lose weight I just need to become healthier and tone up, sure there may
be a few pounds I could lose BUT that should not be the main focus,
becoming healthy should be.
What I have been doing, and this is
for me as it works for me, is eating more raw fruits and vegetables,
have a salad already made up as during the day I reach for something
quick and easy to eat since I am working or chasing my 4 yr old around
that I don’t want to take the time to cook for myself.
I also have added more water to my diet, when I get hungry and its not meal or snack time I reach for the water.
Another
thing I have been doing is finding DVD’s that I enjoy some of you may
laugh at the one I do that I just find so much fun to do and the time
just melts away (no pun intended lol) I bought Carmen Electra’s Strip
Tease aerobics…I know but you know what it is so much fun! I also vary
it with Turbo Jam and Yoga Booty Ballet all of them are fun and have
great music that keeps me going.
Cutting out the real sugars I
can’t do as far as using items like Splenda etc because I don’t feel
they are safe, so I just cut down on how much real sugar I use in my
coffee which I have also cut back from 2 pots, yep 2 pots a day, to 2
cups a day which is a feat in and of itself for me a coffee addict.
Everyone says to stop eating when you are not hungry,
that's simple if you have the will power or are not using food to deal
with other issues as I have been doing since my MIL died.
I was
anorexic and bulimic once, sorry about the sp, and I know all about
eating and emotional disorders. If you look at food as either the enemy
or a comfort food you need to see your doctor about those issues so you
can get those resolved before you start any diet...trust me I have been
on both sides: so skinny I looked like I was dying, I was...and being
overweight it was affecting my entire health and mental well being and
for me both sides I was dealing with emotional problems and the only way
I felt in control was with food.
Good luck to those who are
trying to lose weight, for me this year my goal is healthy living! I did
this once 10 years ago, just watched what I ate and exercised 5 days
out of 7 and lost 30 pounds while hubby was in Korea. So I know I can do
it.
Besides you need to be at a healthy weight and not a skinny
minny...who needs to look like a model or those ladies on tv who
everyone loves and wants to be like.
If you are happy with the way
you look or know your goal weight so you can feel better is to only
lose 10 pounds then go for the 10 pounds and not the 20 pounds to fit
societies image...sorry this is a hot topic for me, I have two nieces
right now that are so thin they would blow away if the wind picks up and
they are starving themselves because they want to look like the stars
or sports people they know when I look at them all I see is what I did
to myself and my body and how many of my health issue right now stem
from not loving myself for me.
So what if you weigh 145 are you in
good shape? Do you love what you see? If not you need to explore
whether it is really for health reasons or emotional reasons why you
want to lose weight...
I am off my soapbox now but I just wanted to wish all of you good health and let you know some of the things I do 🙂
How to Keep Healthy and Glowing Skin
May 18, 2015
It seems as though today everyone is obsessed with looking
younger, but many people are too scared or nervous to try more invasive
treatments like Botox. The truth of the matter when it comes to how to
keep healthy and glowing skin is that you should start within. No amount
of cream will counteract any negative lifestyle issues that are
contributing to the creation of new skin layers.
Skin is ever
evolving and replenishing. Taking some measures to increase your body’s
overall health and wellness will contribute to the replenishment of your
skin. In conjunction with a skin care regime filled with specific
creams, you can age gracefully knowing that you are the one behind the
youthfulness that you will be exuding.
A mantra for almost any
healthy kind of life, the first thing you can do to have healthy and
glowing skin, is to just exercise. The misnomer, however, is that you do
not have to become a gym warrior, sacrificing hours everyday to achieve
results. Taking a short walk, at least half an hour, with friends or
family will increase your cardiovascular health. Doing this every day
will ensure that you’re heart healthy and your cardiovascular system is
key to being healthy in general.
Drinking water cannot be
underplayed. So many people think they can get by with diet sodas, but
the truth is that they do nothing for your health or hydration. Water is
the best thing you can drink, but if you do not like the taste of water
you can add a slice of lemon or lime. Becoming reliant on additives,
like the myriad flavor powders, will stop you from enjoying water for
what it is – a truly refreshing beverage.
Eating fruits and vegetables is also essential to
contributing to the skin's health. The vital vitamins and minerals they
provide will be coupled with some bright and fresh flavors. Learning to
love what is natural can help all aspects of your wellness and overall
glow.
Increasing your ingestion of omega-3 fatty acids is also
important. Omega-3 fatty acids are not made by the body, but must be
ingested and their effects are beneficial to heart, as well as skin,
hair, and teeth. Also, there are many antioxidant packed foods like acai
berries or pomegranates that can make your insides as healthy as
possible which will be reflected on the glow that will be coming from
your skin.
Once you've made over your inside, treat your outside
with some hydrating and collagen infused creams, as well as sunscreen.
If you look at changing your skin as something that involves your inside
and outside, you will have the success you are looking for!
Should I Detox
May 11, 2015
Well the festive season has passed, and here we are in the New
Year, contemplating our lives and our navels. The question being is
your navel in the same place as it was before the season of over
indulgence? If you have emerged from 2005 fighting fit and still
fitting snugly into your cycling shorts, then very well done. If
however 2006 finds you languishing in your emergency joggers(the huge
ones at the bottom of the drawer) and still miserably picking over the
last of the novelty-shaped cheese snackos, then YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Help
is at hand; at this time of the year the papers and magazines are
crammed full of new diets, and the buzz word is DETOX. So should we
detox?
There are so many expensive products and plans on offer; 7
Day Detox diets, nutritional supplements, scientific-looking kits
containing herbs and exotic ingredients. They claim to eliminate
toxins that have built up within our bodies and many contain ‘diuretic’
herbs to encourage urination, and get rid of them. This all seems like a
good idea, especially if we feel sluggish or guilty about
overindulging. Thank goodness there is a wealth of products to get us
back into tip-top condition ASAP.
The problem is that there is
little scientific evidence that these things really work, other than
making us think that we are doing something healthy. The massive diet
and nutrition industries have created yet another myth, the Detox Myth,
encouraging us to spend money on pills, treatments, spa breaks, books
etc, but the benefits of the products are questionable, and the claims
are not supported by science.
Each day, normal bodily processes
(even stressful situations) produce ‘toxic’ chemical products which the
body then uses, breaks down or excretes. If you eat plenty of whole
foods and fruit and vegetables, stay hydrated, and exercise regularly,
your body will work efficiently to metabolize and deal with bodily and
environmental chemicals, but this needs to be worked at every day of
your life; and that is the naked truth of the matter. Most people just
don’t want to hear it; it seems like too much hard work and that it why
the quick-fix industries exist. They are selling us the belief that we
can behave exactly how we wish, and then spend money to make it better
quickly and without sustained effort.
So my New Year message is to reject the Detox
mentality! How much difference can a 7 day plan really make? Our body
has many different rhythms and processes some taking hours, some taking
months, and changing your life drastically for a short time will never
confer a lasting benefit. Be kinder to yourself, and take some time to
consider how you can be more healthy, then set yourself an achievable
goal each week, for example; week 1- drink 1.5 liters of water each day,
week 2: snack on fruit, week 3: find a walking partner. Healthy living
is about making gentle and sustainable changes to our diet and
lifestyle, allowing our body to acclimatize, and our tastes to adjust
slowly, until eating well and exercising becomes a habitual and normal
part of every-day life. This is the true path to a long, productive and
quality life, something that you cannot buy in a box, however much
money you spend.
Until next time, take care and stay healthy!
Vikki.

Group Exercise is Beneficial and Result-Oriented
April 25, 2015
Body fitness and healthy living have become the order of the day
and a frequently discussed issue in Richmond City and the entire
America. With the growing rate of obesity and health issues; more and
more people are beginning to be conscious of exercising and embarking on
other activities that facilitate healthy living. One of the risk-free
techniques of shedding off excess weight is through body exercise. Just a
simple exercise workout could be what you need to regain your shape
rather than passing through a knife-cut (cosmetic surgery) and exposing
yourself to certain risk. Group exercise is one of the body fitness
programs that ensure effectiveness of exercise workouts.
Sometimes,
the workout schedules for body fitness could usher in boredom and
monotony. At such times, it could be hard to want to stay up with the
routines; this is where a group exercise program plays a great role and
this is one of the greatest advantages of group keep fit programs. No
matter how monotonous and boring a workout exercise program might seem,
it is difficult to think of quitting if you are involved in a group
program. The fun-filled air and the compliments that come from a group
work out will always provide the courage and motivations to move on.
In
as much as we are aware of the importance of body exercise and the
great role it plays in our health; yet, the human nature would always
find a reason to default in a set routine fitness session. This
situation is made worse if the program is devoid of any form of fun or
entertainment. Group exercise program plays a great role in eliminating
boredom and weariness; being in the company of others is energy
boosting. Even fitness experts highly recommend group exercise for
effectiveness.
However, there are not much exercise activities that
can be done collectively; although new discoveries are being made
concerning fitness activities that can be carried out collectively.
However, the ones that are readily available are enough to produce
effective results; provided an individual participates with commitment
and zeal. Most of the activities used for group workout have the
advantage of improving fitness in totality rather than focusing on a
particular body part. Some of these activities include cycling, walking,
hop, yoga, swimming, dancing, cardio splash and others.
Also,
exercising with a group offers avenue for progress to be monitored and
measured; this is because the group is always assigned instructor (s);
who would usually structure progress monitoring programs for each
individual; this is feasible if the group is not a large one. Even the
members of your group can help you keep up with your progress rate;
since they will always pass one comment or the other on how a member is
faring.
To its end, you also need to motivate yourself to
participate in your group workout program; punctuality is also very
important in group exercise participation. Discipline is a great virtue
that is required in keep-fit programs; you have to determine to stick to
your goal of achieving a health feat through body exercise. Once you
keep the need to attain your goal in view, it will help you to stick
even when others are quitting.
Exercise and Proper Diet Indispensable Ingredients of Fitness and Healthy Living
April 21, 2015
For the past several years, there is hullabaloo on the need to be
slim and sexy. Grocery shelves are filled with several food supplements
and other products that promise certain health and wellness benefits.
Home TV shopping channels also offer everything from slimming tea to
herbal soap to ‘instant abs’ exercise gadgets. Gyms across the country
are fast gaining members who are willing to sweat it out just to burn
excess calories from mindless munching and eating. There is also an
increasing number of vegetarianism and raw food diet converts who vow to
trade juicy hamburgers for fresh vegetables and fruits. People who are
stressed out dream of luxurious spa treatments, Thai and Swedish
massages, and detoxification diets. All of a sudden, there’s the need to
attain fitness and healthy living. This desire can be attributed to
man’s realization that the world he is living in is too polluted and
toxic. Fitness and healthy living seems to be man’s only hope in staying
sane and sound in this otherwise hostile world.
If one wishes to
achieve fitness and healthy living, he should go for ‘holistic’
approach. A person who wants to have super-fit body goes to the gym a
lot and sticks to rigorous exercise routines. There’s nothing seemingly
wrong with this but he should also see to it he is eating the right
kinds of food. It is not enough to be physically fit outside; one has to
strive to be internally and externally healthy. Body builders have to
follow specific diets appropriate for his physical needs. It is a must
to consult personal trainers who can prescribe a proper workout routine
and the corresponding diet needed for such routine. Furthermore, people
with weight problems should not only focus on improving their diet.
Overweight and obese people also need to regularly exercise. One sure
way to improve one’s health condition is through exercising and eating
wisely. A person should consider these two key aspects as a two-in-one
package.
Fitness and healthy living cannot be attained without
the exercise of one's will. An overweight person cannot be fit and
healthy just be watching TV all day and expecting to wake up slim the
next morning. Fitness and healthy living requires a lot of effort and
involves many decision-making opportunities. One must be really
determined to improve his diet and religiously follow exercise routines
to be able to resist temptations that may go along the way. Sometimes,
it is too tempting to pig out a little more often and to just watch
movies at home instead of exercising and eating good food. But if a
person firmly decided to be slim and sexy, he should be willing to let
go of life's needless pleasures.
About Healthy Living And Exercise
April 4, 2015Being healthy is one of the many things we want to achieve in
life. Of course, being healthy is not just about having a good body and
an active lifestyle but it also gives us the means to achieve our
desires and goals and allows us to do our purposes in life. Here are 10
tips on healthy living that you can start with. They can be more active
and experience less physical strain on their bodies than their thinner
counterparts. This is just one example of a way that our cultural
perception of “healthy living” may actually be leading us astray.
The problem with people, in these hectic days is that
they want a gun-shot treatment; get rid of the symptoms that is causing
the disease or the illness and get along with life, make money, eat
junk food and start the cycle over again. You have to forgive them for
they do not know what they are doing to their bodies.
hese simple
lifestyle decisions and steps provided below are a way to ease your way
into a more healthy happy life. Remember that it took you time to
develop the poor diet and exercise choices that you have now, and it
will take time to incorporate the steps below. So no beating yourself
up, if you slip up once in a while. It’s only natural.
These
foods are over processed and full of salt, sugar and saturated fat. Here
is a good rule of thumb you may have heard before. If your grandmother
wouldn’t recognize it, it’s probably not real food. This food may give
you a quick burst of energy, but will inevitably leave you crashing, and
feeling suddenly tired and lethargic.
Eating right is also a
simple thing you can do to feel good and stay healthy. Making true to
the grain choices is best. Avoiding processed foods will aid in your
reduction of not only calories but also keeping your body regulated. You
can easily feel good by having good eating habits.
Regular
healthy living can help prevent obesity, diabetes, heart disease,
stroke and high blood pressure. Regular exercise can help lose weight,
or control it, help chronic arthritis suffers improve on their daily
living activities such as driving, working, climbing stairs, and opening
letters, jars, or folding laundry.
A healthy diet is the most
essential part of healthy living. Eating nutritious and healthy food
will strengthen your immune system, thus reduces the risk of getting
affected by infection. A healthy diet should always be combined with
adequate sleep and regular exercise. This will flourish our lifestyle.
When
people decide to embark on a journey towards healthy living, they often
forget the saying, “a healthy mind leads to a healthy body”. It works
like this, if you make sudden lifestyle changes which will shock your
subconscious mind, it is going to reject these changes and you will soon
be following your same old bad habits.
